Library of the Department of Geography

The first trace of the Libraryestablishment, ie the acquisition of the first fund of geographical and geological literature, dates back to the 1950s when the Department of Geography was formed at the Faculty of Philosophy. This is evidenced by the first diploma thesis in the field of geography (1954), which was included in the Library’s collection. The library of the Department of Geography was founded when the Faculty of Science, ie the Department of Geography, ten years later. The Library is located in today’s space in 1974, and since 2012 it has been part of the Library of the Faculty of Science as a special professional organizational unit.

Library is open, and its book collection consists of: monographic (8311 volumes) and periodical (4375 volumes) publications in the field of geography, geology and related sciences. No less important part of the fund are final theses: graduate (1663 titles), master’s (141 titles) + (20 titles) and doctoral dissertations (32 titles).

An online catalog is being developed through COBISS.BH (Cooperative Online Bibliographic System and Service). The online catalog can be accessed via the COBISS platform.

Also in the form of a cumulative bibliography, made according to ISBD standards and with certain registers, a Bibliography of doctoral dissertations, master’s and diploma theses defended at the Department of Geography, Faculty of Science, University of Sarajevo in the period 1954-2016.
